Elmer Lee Castner

March 18, 1935 ~ January 21, 2016 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Elmer Lee Castner, 80, of Commerce, Texas, passed away in Greenville on Thursday, January 21, 2016.  He was born in Caddo Mills, Texas on March 18, 1935, the son of Orbie King Castner and Effie Isham Castner.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Saturday, January 23 at Commerce Funeral Home in Commerce, Texas.  Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, January 24 at First Baptist Church, Commerce at 1:00 p.m.  Interment will immediately follow at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.

Elmer grew up in the Yowell community where he attended West Delta High School.  During his years there, he was a very talented basketball player.  He joined the Army in 1961, then served in the National Guard.  While serving he was deployed to Ft. Hood in Killeen, Texas.  Elmer married Mary Kilgore in 1956.  They enjoyed 38 years together before she died in 1994.  He married Shirley Robnett in 1995.  They enjoyed 20 years together.  She died in 2014. 

Elmer was a businessman his whole life, being involved in several businesses over the years.  He was a partner in D&E Tires and Auto Parts.  He worked building that business for 40 years, before retiring in 2014.  During his down time, Elmer enjoyed caring for and racing his Quarter Horses, caring for his cattle and going fishing. 

Elmer is survived by his sister, Sue Kennimer; step-daughter, Tracy (Ben) Davis and family; nieces Retha Brooks, Debra Morgan, and Carla Red; nephews Russell Kennimer and Gary Shaw, and numerous other loving family members.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Orbie and Effie Castner, and sister, Nell Shaw.

Serving as pallbearers for Elmer are Danny Payne, Sidney Stewart, Danny Humphries, Rick Rex, Brad Rex, and Tommy Phillips.

Serving as Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Johnson and Brian Kennimer.
