Billy Hammons, age 90, was born on September 15, 1935, in Ridgway, Texas, to M.Z. “Bud” Hammons and Ruby Mason Hammons. He passed away on March 22, 2026.
Billy, known lovingly by all as “Pa,” married the love of his life, Sandra Gail Scott, on August 1, 1959. She preceded him in death.
Pa worked as a Supervisor for Rockwell International, where he dedicated 40 years of service before retiring in 2000. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Pa was a man who truly loved the outdoors. Whether he was fishing, hunting, boating, or camping, he felt most at home in nature. More than anything, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, M.Z. “Bud” Hammons and Ruby Hammons; his stepmother, Lela Perkins Hammons; his beloved wife, Sandra Gail Hammons; sisters, Mary Elizabeth “Lizzy” Williams, Jenna Bell Williams, and Darvy Nell Hall; brothers, J.L. “Buster” Hammons and James Earl “Shorty” Hammons; and stepbrothers, Paul Young, Vernon Young, and Stanley Young.
Pa is survived by his children, Donna McCraw and husband Doug, and Tracy Hammons and wife Julita; and by his brother, Jackie Hammons. He is also survived by five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, lovingly listed by family:
• Heath McCraw and wife Sheena, and their children Heather, Lane, and Sandra K.
• Tracy Hammons and wife Ashley, and their children Cheyenne and Whitley
• Alex Hammons and wife Francesca, and their children Keegan, Bristol, and Graylen
• Trent McCraw and wife Christina, and their daughter Emberly
• Amber Wagner and husband Jeremy, and their daughters Addelynn and Abigail.
Pallbearers will be Heath McCraw, Trent McCraw, Lane McCraw, Tracy Hammons Jr., Alex Hammons, and Jeremy Wagner.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to hospice nurse Bethany Fort of True Hearts and Hands, whose care was instrumental over the past two years, as well as Tammy Mauldin and Darlene Hammons, whose loving and faithful daily care was truly a Godsend.
Pa's legacy of love, strength, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew and loved him.
