Commerce

Jacob Christian Castro, born March 11, 1992, went to meet the Lord on June 4, 2025. Jacob was 33 years old, and the only child born to Christi Mottwiler Mojica and Fransisco Castro. Jacob grew up in Oak Cliff, Texas and attended Gospel Lighthouse School where he was a church member until he moved with his grandmother, Jodi Mottwiler, and mother, Christi, at age eight to Mesquite/Garland area where Jacob made life-long friends at Sunnyvale First Baptist and New Vision Church where he was active in the youth ministry. Jacob attended Price Elementary, where he began playing the violin, then Vanston Middle School where he continued orchestra and football, then received a full four-year scholarship to complete his education at Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas, graduating in 2011. He was very active at Bishop Lynch in football, bowling, art, and history, his favorite subjects and many fun extracurricular activities, one of the most memorable being “Float Your Boat” for science class when he and friends built a boat out of cardboard and duct tape and the challenge was to see if it would float with 3 or 4 guys in it without sinking. He went on a mission trip to Honduras in 2010 and gained a love for helping others and travel. After graduating high school, he attended Texas A&M Commerce where he excelled academically as the school’s President’s Scholar, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in History in 2020. After college, he and several friends went to Alaska for a few weeks, which he said was the trip of a lifetime. And then the trip to the Montana/Canadian border by car and back with Jacob’s best friend, Matthew Gonzales, where it was cool to camp out in a tent from city to city and see the most amazing views. Jacob would light up a room with his smile with the ability to walk in any room and make friends with anyone. He was kind, compassionate, and generous and at times would hand out water and food to the homeless while lending an ear. Jacob had a heart for others and worked as a server at TaMolly’s in Paris, Texas, before moving to Dallas to teach at Fusion School. During the summer he was a server at Cane Rosso in North Dallas. Jacob moved back to Roxton and then moved to Commerce, where he went back to work as a server at TaMolly’s in Greenville where he was employed at the time of his death. Jacob deeply loved his family and friends and enjoyed yearly family vacations.

Jacob is preceded in death by his mother, Christi Mojica, and grandfather, Gary Mottwiler.

Jacob is survived by his father, Fransisco Castro; brother, Elijah Mojica; sister, Caitlin Mojica; grandmother, Jodi Mottwiler; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends have been blessed by Jacob and he will be greatly missed and always remembered for his smile, love, and ability to make people feel special. Rest in peace young man.
