Joy Lucille Logston, 62, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026 at UTSW in Dallas. A visitation and viewing is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 2:00 to 3:00 at Commerce Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born on October 23, 1963, in Tampa, Florida, Joy was the daughter of Ernest Sawin Wheeler and Judy Bauer. As the daughter of an Air Force serviceman, Joy grew up moving around and experiencing many different places before eventually making her way to Texas.

After moving to Texas, Joy lived in Houston, where she met Charles Robert Logston on Galveston Beach on April 15, 1980. The two talked on the phone for several weeks before Charles returned to Houston to get Joy, bringing her back to Dallas on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1980. Their story would become the beginning of a family that would grow to include four children and nine grandchildren.

Joy dedicated the majority of her working life to Brookshire’s, where she built an impressive career through hard work and determination. She started as a cashier, then worked her way up to meat wrapper, butcher market manager, store manager, and eventually Store Director before retiring. After retirement, she spent a short time working in accounting for DeHay& Elliston LLP in Dallas. She was also a longtime member of the Royse City Lions Club, giving her time and energy to serving her community and helping others.

But Joy will be remembered for so much more than her work and accomplishments. She was truly the life of the party and was always down for the get-down. If there was music playing, Joy was dancing. She was known for her legendary Halloween parties, where she never did anything halfway, and she was a devoted karaoke lover who was always ready to grab the microphone. Joy brought fun, laughter, and energy wherever she went.

She had an enormous heart for children and was deeply involved in the lives of her grandchildren, as well as the children throughout her extended family and her friends’ families. She had a way of making kids feel loved, included, and at home, and her presence in their lives will be deeply missed.

Joy had a lifelong love of animals. She loved dogs, cats, horses, and watching the many animals outside her window. Although she was allergic to cats, that never stopped her from loving them. When she moved to Campbell, she finally got to enjoy the many outdoor cats that had already made their home around the property. Before long, they had become her cats too.

Joy also found happiness in painting, crafts, plants, and gardening. She loved nurturing things and watching them grow, whether it was something she had planted herself or the animals she could watch from her window. She also had a few special collections and obsessions that were unmistakably hers. She proudly collected shot glasses, each one carrying its own little memory or story, and her love for Tweety Bird was legendary. From decorations to keepsakes, Tweety seemed to find a place wherever Joy did.

Joy was the person who would lend a willing hand to anyone and everyone. She gave generously of herself, whether someone needed help, a laugh, a listening ear, or simply someone to show up. Her warmth, generosity, humor, and unmistakable personality left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Joy is preceded in death by her mother, Judy Bauer.

She is survived by her father, Ernest Sawin Wheeler; her stepmother, Sherry Wheeler; her siblings, Troy Wheeler and his wife, Christine Wheeler; Christine Harvey and her husband, Charles; and Cindy Boyd; Charles Robert Logston, with whom she shared her four children, Danial Logston and his wife, Alyssa; Charles Logston and his wife, Kendyl; Lucas Logston and his wife, Kerah; and Taylor Logston; and her nine grandchildren, Tyler, Joshua, Oliver, Elexis, Hendrix, Justin, Jameson, Jaxson, Hannah and her husband, Tyler, and Jocelynn. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly.

Joy leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, generosity, and memories that will continue to be shared for generations. She will be deeply missed, but the joy she brought to the lives of so many will never be forgotten.
