Kyle Smith

May 6, 1965 — March 23, 2026

Commerce

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Kyle Reagan Smith, beloved husband, dad, son, brother, uncle, Grumpy to his grandchildren and lifelong friend.  He passed away at his home on March 23, 2026 surrounded by loved ones.

Kyle fought a courageous battle and showed us what determination, hard work and love really looked like. He was a cherished member of his family and a son of Commerce. He was known for his fearlessness, humor, generosity and his love of trucks and loud pipes. He lived his life with boundless energy and a heart full of kindness. Whether you have known him for years or just a moment, you know he will never be forgotten.

Kyle grew up in Commerce and began working at the age of 14. He opened K&A Auto on Live Oak then began Cutting Edge Lawn Service. Kyle knew every inch of Commerce and almost everyone who lived here. He left his mark whether making our community beautiful or leaving deep ruts while mudding as a teenager. Kyle was a gifted baseball pitcher in high school, then playing on the Eastfield College golf team. He was a competitor, and most did not look forward to losing to him most of the time. He loved traveling with his wife, Tamar, every year to beach destinations during his winter break.

Kyle loved his family and found his greatest accomplishment in his children and grandchildren. Kyle is survived by his wife Tamar, and children Sydnee Smith and husband Justin, Stoney Mitchell and wife Kendall, and Benn May. Grandchildren Charlie Smith, Raylee and Callie Mitchell. Father John K. Smith and wife Linnea, sister Kendra Smith-Lawson, husband Shawn, brother Shane Kubacak and sister Morgan Kubacak. Nephews Andrew Lawson, Jackson Kubacak, Traison Kubacak and niece Maliyah Kubacak. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Fraser and his grandparents.  And last but not least, he is survived by his beloved Corgies, Chloe and Josey; and his beloved bottle of ketchup and Budweiser.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life at the United Methodist Church in Commerce on April 11th at 1 pm. The celebration will continue at Sand Hills Country Club immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the memorial fund at Sand Hills, Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org, or Tunnel to Towers at t2t.org.
