Rickey Dewayne Johnston, 70, of Commerce passed away on May 12, 2026. Rickey was born on January 25, 1956 to James Edward and Daisy Fay (Miller) Johnston. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by brother Michael Johnston and wife Karen of Wolfe City, sisters Pamela Johnston of Lewisville, and Cheryl Van Zandt of Commerce. Rickey was also survived by his niece, Emily Bishop (Brant); nephews, Chris Johnston (Lori). Shane Harzke (Mandy), Curtis Johnston (Kelly) and Colten Gregory. He is also survived by 2 great-nieces, 5 great-nephews, and special cousin Shirley Weihman.
Rickey developed a passion for cars at a young age. He spent many years working at local body shops, dealerships, and parts stores. After retiring, he continued repairing cars, tractors, and anything with a motor. He was well-known in the community for his friendly personality and willingness to help friends and family.
Rickey had many friends he enjoyed spending time with and he appreciated their companionship and the good times he spent with them working on cars, fishing, or just talking. His family is grateful for the support they provided to him during his good times and bad times.
Rickey graduated from Commerce High School in 1974 and attended his 50th class reunion in 2024 with his former classmates and was very excited to do so.
Rickey enjoyed fishing and camping at Cooper Lake with his family and friends. Rickey had a big heart and was a very caring and sentimental man. Rickey will be missed by his family and friends greatly.
An informal graveside service will take place at a later date.
