Shirley Faye Pope (Duncan), age 80, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. Born on January 29, 1946, in Idabel, Oklahoma, Shirley lived a life rooted in faith, love, and service to others. A devoted minister of the Word of God for over four decades, Shirley answered her calling with unwavering dedication. After completing seminary in the 1990s, she spent more than 40 years ministering to thousands. Her ministry was not confined to pulpits or church walls—she shared her faith with everyone she met, offering prayer, encouragement, and spiritual guidance with a heart full of compassion.Shirley found joy and fellowship at Generation Faith Center in Quinlan, Texas. Her days were often centered around daily devotions and prayer with her cherished friends and fellow believers. Her deep love for the Lord was evident in every aspect of her life and served as a guiding light for those around her. She was a woman who loved deeply—her family, her friends, her community—and she expressed that love through both word and deed. Shirley’s warmth extended beyond people to the natural world; she found peace among her flower gardens and took great delight in tending them. Her beloved dogs were constant companions throughout her life, and she held a special affection for her granddog, Tippy.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Jerry Lynn Pope of Commerce, Texas, with whom she shared 62 happy years of marriage prior to her passing; son Tony Lynn Pope and his wife Jean-Ann Brown of Greenville, Texas; son Terry Glynn Pope of Rockwall, Texas; and daughter Christy Renea Smith of Commerce, Texas. She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and a great-grandmother to eighteen great-grandchildren.She is also survived by her siblings: sister Audrey and husband Clyde Roberts of Leonard, Texas; sister Arlene and husband Frank Hubbard of Franklin, Tennessee; brother Ronald Duncan of Bonham, Texas; and brother Luckey and wife Toni Duncan of Azle, Texas. Shirley leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews who will remember her with love. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack C. Duncan and Dorothy Elizabeth Snider Duncan.
Shirley Faye Pope’s legacy is one of faithfulness—to God, to family, and to all those whose lives she touched through ministry. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
