Valerie (Gibson) Mirkowicz, a resident of Commerce, passed away on September 1, 2025, in Greenville, TX. Valerie was born on April 2, 1956 to the union of Edward Cullen Gibson, Sr. and Fannie Lee Jackson.
Valerie graduated with the class of 1974 from Haworth High School in Haworth, Oklahoma. She went on to graduate in 1995 from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a double master’s degree majoring in Sociology and Social Gerontology. Valerie married Arnoldo Emilio Mirkowicz in 2002.
Valerie spent 22 years in a successful career as a Social Worker. This chosen field allowed Valerie to not only utilize her formal education but also allowed her to show genuine compassion to those whom she served. Once she ended her working career, Valerie loved to attend the Church of Christ in Commerce, as well as journaling, beading, studying rocks and minerals and micro portraits.
Left to cherish Valerie’s memory are her daughters, Linda and Kellie Allen; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Kitty Gibson Proudfoot and Steffannie Powell; nephew, Steve Harless; nieces, Jennifer Pollard, Vicky Hoag, and Kristy McKinnon.
Those preceding her in death are her husband, Arnoldo; mother, Fannie Lee and father, Edward; sisters, Barbara, Willa, Faye, and Cecile; and brother, Edward Cullen Gibson, Jr.
The family would like to name David Gibson and Kathy Greenough as Honorary Pallbearers.
