Currey Leon Summerlin

Currey Leon Summerlin, 78, of Campbell, Texas, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 17, 2020.  He was born on July 10, 1942 in Ladonia, Texas, the son of Aubrey Dean Summerlin and Eunice Craig Summerlin.

Leon attended Brownfield High School, graduating with the class of 1960. In April 1963, Leon married Sandra Lee Bair.  The ceremony took place in Ceres, California. Leon answered the call of duty to his country when he enlisted in the United States Air Force in January 1961. During his tour, he was deployed to Viet Nam.  He was honorably discharged in 1969.  Leon’s career in the printing industry lasted the next 27 years.  He and his family were faithful members of the Commerce Church of Christ, where Leon served as an Elder.  He could always be found serving in some capacity.  Leon enjoyed working with his hands.  He was adept at remodeling and general handyman work.  One of his areas of service to his church was working to maintain the church facilities.    

Leon is survived by his wife, Sandra; his children, Vickie Summerlin, Lisa Meeks and husband, Danny and Jill Adams and husband, Kevin; grandchildren, Andrew Meeks, Jordan Meeks and Lillian Adams; sisters, Shirley Smith and Linda Derrick, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Eunice Summerlin and his brothers, Billy Wayne Summerlin and Jimmy Dean Summerlin.

Serving as honorary bearers for Leon are Mike Anderson, Roy Childs, Joe Combs, Jerry Scoggins and Wallace Mynatt.

A visitation will be held Monday, January 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Commerce.  A memorial service will follow 10:00 am at the Church of Christ in Commerce, with David Gibson officiating.  In lieu of flowers, it was Leon's desire that donations be made to the Church of Christ in Commerce to aid in their building program.
