Keila Barnett Obituary

Keila went to be with the Lord on February 27, 2021 at Baylor Grapevine Hospital.  She was a COVID statistic.

Keila lived in the Metroplex over fifty years.  She graduated from L. D. Bell High School in Bedford, Texas.  She then went on to attend Kilgore College.  She was highly active as a Kilgore Rangerette, being named a “K Girl” her second year.  There is a life-sized picture of her on the wall of the Rangerette Museum.  Keila then attended UT Arlington and Tarrant County College, studying photography.  She has traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.  She loved the symphony, theater, museums, gardening, swimming, golf, and photography. Keila worked for the Birdville Independent School District Transportation Department as a bus driver.  She loved the children and parents would request her for their child’s driver.  One of Keila’s co-workers, Connie Snow, always called Keila “Sunshine.”  Indeed, Keila was like sunshine wherever she went.  She had a beautiful smile, and everyone loved her.  She had a kind, generous heart, a sweet spirit and was so much fun to be with.  Keila was a member of First Baptist Church Dallas.  Every Sunday for over five years, Keila drove the special needs bus transporting adults from DeSoto, Lancaster and Cedar Hill to First Baptist.  She was a member of the Single Spirit Sunday School Class. Keila was loved by many.  She will be missed but we know we will see her again.  She and Mandy will be waiting for us in the garden, tending to the magnificent flowers there!

Keila is survived by her beloved daughter, Annabelle Martin; parents, Bill and Annabelle Barnett; a sister, Jeri Lou McKinney and five cousins, Shannon Roten, Lance James, Joe Brent Kimball, Cullen Davis and Brian Davis.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mandy Markules, and her father, Jerry Lewis Head.

A private graveside service will be held in Comanche, Texas at the family cemetery, March 6, 2021.  In lieu of flowers, please donate in Keila’s memory to the Special Friends Department, First Baptist Church, 1707 San Jacinto, Dallas, Texas 75201
