Lenton Moore Obituary

Lenton Ray Moore, 83, of Commerce, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, January 1, 2023. He was born on August 7, 1939, in Needmore, Texas, the son of Grady Macklin Moore and Effie Robnett Moore.   A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Commerce Funeral Home.  A service celebrating Lenton’s life will immediately follow at 2:00 at the funeral home.  Immediately following the Celebration of Life service, there will be a committal service at Shiloh Cemetery in Klondike.

Lenton attended West Delta High School, graduating with the class of 1957. Lenton married the love of his life, Kay Ainsworth, on April 7, 1966, in Cooper, Texas. They continued living in the Shiloh-Needmore area until their second child was born, when they moved to Commerce. Soon after, his job at LTV ended and he began working for the Cotton Belt Railroad. After thirty years of service, he retired on January 1, 2001.

Lenton loved retirement and the freedom it brought. He became a faithful member of the McDonald’s Coffee Club and enjoyed the fellowship with the guys there. He drove cars for the local car dealerships, enjoying the many places he went. He was president of the Shiloh Cemetery Association and took pleasure in caring for it. Lenton’s priorities were God, family, and country. He loved the Lord and was a faithful servant. He served as a deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. His love for his family was unconditional and he was always available to help when one of them was in need. He was a faithful husband and a great dad to his boys. His love and presence will be missed by many.

Left to cherish Lenton’s memory are his wife of 56 years, Kay; his sons, Darron Moore, and wife, Racheal, and Monty Moore; granddaughters, Anna-Grace Moore, Skylar Moore, Tatum Moore, Leeloo Moore; one grandson, Duncan Moore; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Effie Moore; two brothers, Gerald Moore, and J.C. Moore; two sisters, Joyce Stribling, and husband, Bill, and Jean Brooks, and husband, Wheat; his in-laws, Archie and Hildred Ainsworth, and brother and sister-in-law, Marion and Pat Ainsworth.

Serving Lenton as honorary bearers is the McDonald’s Coffee Club.
