Myron Friend Obituary

Myron Raleigh Friend, 92, formerly of Brownwood, Texas, passed away in Tyler, Texas on September 13, 2021. He was born on June 1, 1929, in Early, Texas, the son of Raleigh Friend and Minnie Brinkley Friend.

Myron grew up in Early, Texas, and graduated from Early High School in 1946. He entered the Air Force in 1946, being stationed in Japan. He was then reassigned to the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. He met Beth Newton, who resided in the same boarding house, in Washington, D.C., as he did. They were married in 1953 in Phenix City, Alabama. They left for Switzerland right away, where they were stationed until 1958. Myron retired from the Air Force in July 1967. It was then that he began his second career as Manager of Operations for the Computer Center at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He remained there for 21 years, before retiring once again.

Myron had a passion for woodworking. He made wooden bowls, pens, and many other mementos. He liked vintage cars, working on crossword puzzles, and reading novels.

Myron is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beth; daughter, Carrie Friend Parker and husband, Jim; son, Kevin Alan Friend; granddaughter, Laura Parker Kennedy and husband, Scott, daughter, Lindsay Parker and husband, Pete Joerger; great grandchildren, Parker Thomas Kennedy, Rylee Marye Kennedy, and Josiah Charles Joerger; brother Jack Friend and wife, Betty, sister, Judith Friend Mann; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raleigh H. Friend and mother, Minnie L. Friend.
