Obituary

Patsy Ruth Kelly, 85, of Commerce, passed away after a brief illness, on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. She was born on August 5, 1937, in Fairlie, Texas, the daughter of Charlie Jackson Walden and Lula Mae (Davis) Walden. The family will receive friends at a visitation to take place on Monday, June 19, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Commerce. A funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with Reverend Kris Myers officiating.  The burial will be at Rosemound Cemetery.

Pat attended Commerce High School, graduating with the class of 1955. She had worked hard since she was twelve years old. Most recently, she worked for ten years at Texas A&M University-Commerce, in the  continuing education department. On July 26, 1990, Pat married Jack Kelly, who was her high school sweetheart. The ceremony took place in Campbell, Texas. They enjoyed thirty-three years of happiness together. Pat and Jack were active members of the First Baptist Church in Commerce.  Pat was busy being involved with several groups, including the Red Hat Society, Joy Sunday School Class, Bible Study, exercise classes at Country Home Estates, Ladies Culture Club, and the Uptown Girls Mahjong Club.

Pat was someone who was very easy to love! She was known for her kind, gentle spirit, and warm hugs. She had many great friends and loved to be “on the go”! When she was ready to go, she would say, “Let’s blow this joint!” Pat loved to decorate, cook great meals, and watch football. She played the piano, which was an extension of her love of music. Pat was a lover of God and people, which was reflected in the many friends she enjoyed, all of which will miss her greatly!

Left to cherish Pat’s memory are her loving husband, Jack; daughters, Patty Hoskins and husband, Brad, Cindy Mize and husband, Kenny, and step-daughter, Jill Grove and husband, JimBob; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Lula Mae Walden, and siblings, Betty Gossett, Sam Walden, Leon Walden, Peggy Wheat and Edna O’Quinn.

Serving as pallbearers for Pat are Aaron Hoskins, Andrew Hoskins, Marshall DeBlanc, Steve Gossett, Tim Gossett and Dustin Kelly.
