Seungtaek Kim Obituary

Seungtaek Kim, 57, of Commerce, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 in Commerce, Texas.  He was born on January 23, 1963 in Seoul, South Korea, the son of Kyungjoo Kim and Youngsook Paik Kim. The family will receive friends at a visitation to take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Crosspoint Church, 2101 Stonebridge Dr., McKinney, Texas 75052. A funeral service will take place immediately following at 2:00 p.m. at Crosspoint Church, with Pastor Mark Turman officiating.

Seungtaek attended Kyunggi High School in Seoul, South Korea, graduating in 1981.  He went on to attend Korea University for one year before immigrating to the United States in 1982.  He furthered his education at Contra Costa College, and during this time began a career with the United States Postal Service in 1985.  He went on to become a Senior Field Staffing Analyst.  Seungtaek was especially proud to have been the 27th Postmaster for Plano, Texas, serving from 2013 to 2015.  Seungtaek married the love of his life, Youngmi, on December 22, 2001 in San Francisco, California.

Seungtaek had many varied interests.  He was an avid golfer; his favorite moment was when he witnessed his teenage son score a hole in one; he enjoyed hosting people and cooking, especially big feasts for his family; and playing the guitar, in particular the tunes of his favorite Korean folk rock singer Kim Kwang-Seok.  Above all else, he truly cherished his role as Grandpa to his two beautiful grandchildren.

Seungtaek is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Youngmi; his children, Joshua and his wife, Joycelyn, June and her husband, Nathan Park, Jacob and his wife, Ammie, and Joseph; his father, Kyungjoo Kim and a sister, Chungju Lee.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Youngsook Kim and a sister, Chung Hee Carter.

Serving as honorary pallbearers for Seungtaek are his sons Joshua, Jacob and Joseph; son-in-law Nathan Park; and Joshua Baier, Owen Bishop, Dylan Shaw, and Nicholas Weldum.
