Dorothy Christine Ingram, long-time resident of Commerce, TX, passed away on November 11, 2015.  Dorothy is survived by her niece, Lisa Schroeder; her grand nieces, Nancy Schroeder and Amanda Schroeder; brother-in-law, Wayne Winn and numerous beloved cousins.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, William Dunn; her mother, Ava Lee Adams;  husband,  Troy Ingram; sister, Nancy Winn; brother, Jerry Dunn and nephew, Steve Winn.  Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Commerce Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will take place on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Commerce.  Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.

Dorothy was an active member of the community and thought of her friends and neighbors as part of her extended family.  She participated in many community events and activities.  She was a member of the Coterie Club, Psychology Club, and Eastern Star Chapter 208.

Until recently, Dorothy was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce, where she worshipped the Lord with her beloved church family.  She served on various committees and dearly loved taking care of “the babies” during Sunday School.

Dorothy held a PhD and served as a Professor of Health, Physical Education and Kinesiology at East Texas State University/Texas A&M University, Commerce.   She taught from 1942 until her retirement in 1998.  During her tenure, she influenced all with her honest, straight-forward mission to truly teach and guide her students through their academic pathway and beyond.  Through her dedication to her profession and the positive impression she made, she forged relationships with her peers and students that live on to the far corners of the world.

Recognition of her service resulted in her selection as Professor Emeritus in 1997; membership in the Founder’s Circle, and selection as a recipient of the President’s “Spirit of Mayo” Citation in 1997.  She was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.

Beyond the classroom, she was installed as a member of the Alpha Phi Fraternal Organization in 1960, and remained active, later becoming Outstanding Advisor for the Delta Beta Chapter.  As always, her involvement proved invaluable, as she helped guide young female students in their pursuits, and watched as they completed their educations and went on their way.  Because of her influence, they became beautiful women demonstrating commitments to life, family, careers and carrying with them the lessons, leadership and love.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Tracy Barnes, Charles Adams, Larry Chaloupka, Blake Cooper, Emerson Adams and Fred Blohm.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Casselberry, the Hope Sunday School class, the Coterie Club, the Psychology Club and the Alpha Phi Women.
